Telling The Stories Behind The Scores

My parents named me after the prophet Micah and they raised me to live by his words. From my earliest days on the basketball court, they instilled in me the belief that I was more than just an athlete. Sports weren't just about competition; they were about character, community, and the stories that connect us.

When I was offered basketball scholarships out of high school, I made a decision that surprised a lot of people: I chose to follow my heart into sports broadcasting instead. I wanted to stay in the game I love, but from behind the mic, telling the stories that don't show up in the box score.

As a high school athlete, I struggled with depression and anxiety but didn't feel like I had a safe space to talk about it. Thankfully, I had a strong support system that helped me through. That experience shaped my mission: I want to use sports media to shed light on athlete mental health and share the human stories behind the jerseys.

I'm a junior at Bradley University studying Sports Communication with a Journalism minor, and I'm building toward a career in sports broadcasting and documentary filmmaking.
